There are generally three kinds of pigment refills consumables for 3D printing pens on the market, namely PCL consumables, PLA consumables and ABS consumables. These three consumables have different prices, performance and advantages, and the difference between them is quite obvious.
1. PCL materials. The melting point is around 60℃, which is a biodegradable material, non-toxic and tasteless. Meanwhile, after adding pigment, PCL material is also more vivid after shaping, and its impact resistance is better than PLA material. However, PCL material is not resistant to high temperature, and even when it meets hot water at 5 or 60℃, it may soften PCL material and further cause deformation.
2. PLA materials. The melting point is above 150℃, which is also a biodegradable material with good strength. However, compared with ordinary plastics, it will be brittle, not impact resistant and not flexible enough, unable to rebound when falling down, and the weak part is easy to break, but suitable for making some small crafts.PLA material has a much brighter color than ABS material, and there is no need to worry about shrinkage when cooling.PLA is not toxic and has the same taste when heated, but the taste is more comfortable. However, the PLA material is prone to lead to pen head blockage, especially the metal pen head.
3. ABS material. If the melting point is above 200℃, it is very easy to shrink when cooling. If the temperature is not well controlled and cannot be averaged, it is likely to cause the model's shrinkage, deformation and warping. In addition, although ABS material is not toxic in most cases, it has a strong taste when heated and is best used in a well-ventilated room. The plasticity of ABS is very strong, and the strength of the model is also relatively good. Although the color is not as bright as the other two materials, it is good in high temperature and impact toughness.
